Digital Video Postproduction
Description
This course examines the theoretical and practical implications of the use of digital video and audio.
It serves as a hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of Editing with Final Cut Pro and aims to provide students with advanced and continuative operations of the Final Cut Pro HD system.
Course Aims
The design of this course will transfuse a basic working knowledge of the stages and technologies involved in a digital film project with particular emphasis on the editing process. It examines workflow, project management and interpersonal skills needed to edit footage for a variety of delivery platforms. Non-linear editing techniques and approaches are demonstrated and discussed, considering these from both a technical and an aesthetic perspective.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, students will be able to:
L1 Describe and identify the hardware and software used in digitizing and manipulating video and audio.
L2 Demonstrate and describe the process of video and audio production.
L3 Define the roles and responsibilities of video production team.
L4 Acquire video and audio according to detailed specifications including compression, file size and cross platform compatibility.
L5 Demonstrate knowledge of the post-production process necessary in digital video and audio production.
L6 Demonstrate non-linear video editing techniques and DVD authoring.
L7 Describe and demonstrate audio creation and manipulation techniques for a variety of outcomes.
Generic Skill Outcomes
On completion of this course, students will have participated in learning activities and assessment tasks designed to enhance their ability to:
G1 Communicate through clear, logically presented works and spoken presentations.
G2 Think critically ,by analysing and evaluating information, pertinent to the field of study.
G3 Solve problems, by adapting knowledge gained to new tasks and identifying relevant solution strategies.
G5 Analyse data and information, by retrieving, evaluating and presenting information from a range of sources.
G6 Use Information Technology for both accessing information and creating computer-based artifacts.
